August 2012 - My first time

I had never heard of "mochi" before my foodie friend at work brought in a box of it that she had received as a gift.  She wanted to share and being the adventurous person that I am, I eagerly accepted.  Mochi is a small dessert cake made from glutinous rice that has been pounded into a paste and shaped into a cake form and then stuffed with some other ingredient.  The box she had was a variety box with a few different flavors.  I think this one was filled with red bean paste.  It had the texture of a marshmallow; but, not quite so sweet.  I liked it!

Have you ever had mochi?

  6. I had one just about three months ago... same sort of thing as you... someone brought some to work claiming they really didn't like them and needed to get rid of them... I said what the heck and bit right into it.. red bean was my favorite too.

  8. I love mochi and I make them at home all the time. They are my kids' favorite snacks. (I posted my family's recipe on my blog a while ago as well)

:) I usually put sesame paste filling in them. But red bean paste and lotus paste are also quite popular as well. :)

  9. Mochi is one of those things I've never tried...but have wanted to for ages. I've never seen any around here, so I'm thinking the only way I'll be able to try it, is if I make it. That looks fantastic!
