SICK COMPUTER...

Good Morning!

My precious computer has a blown motherboard. I left the house on Friday to enjoy the beautiful, warm day with my mother-in-law and I came home to enjoy some time reading blogs on the deck outside. It was not to be. Sometime while I was gone, the motherboard in my computer decided to stop functioning. Sad....

After a conversation with Dell Support via online chat (the best way to communicate with them!), my husband found out that our warranty expired in December. That's not surprising.  Isn't that how it usually works?

The good news...if you can call it good news...is that this appears to be an issue that is under recall.  Yay!  So we won't be out any money on the repair!  That's certainly good news to me.

Dell originally wanted us to send the computer to them and have them replace the motherboard. Terrible option!  All my "stuff" is on there...my photos...my documents...my....well, you get the picture, right?  To send them my computer just seems way too personal.  It would be like sending them an unrestricted part of myself.  That's just not a comfortable thought to me.

My sweet husband is perfectly capable of repairing this computer if he has the parts so they are sending a new motherboard to us for him to replace.  So until that time, I am attempting to function with this incredibly small Dell mini with it's incredibly small keyboard and none of my photos or my photo software.  Since it's a holiday today, I'm not sure if Fed Ex will be delivering. I'm hoping, just this once, that they don't have the day off.  I'm thankful we have this little computer; but for my old eyes and chubby fingers, it's just not comfortable to use like my laptop.  Until I get it fixed, my time on here posting and reading and commenting on your blogs will be limited.

I hope you all had a great weekend and that your upcoming week is even better.  Spring is on its way.  It may be snowing here in NH at the present time; but there's just something different in the air.  I can feel it.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I look forward to seeing you again soon.

  2. Oh Candace how horrible indeed. I go through that when I use the min laptop in the living room. It works in a pinch, but certainly wouldn't want to use it all the time. Which reminds me, I need to do some backup on the main computer before I loose all of my pics. Hugs...

  4. That is ALWAYS the way it works -- these machines are so temperamental, and I think they do a countdown until the warranties expire. They must have their own version of the crystal ball that drops in Times Square! And then they just go kerplooie ....

  5. OK it stinks when the computer is on the blink! Glad your hubby can repair it - I'm like you and would NOT want to send it in.

I WANT SNOW. Just one more time, and preferably not during spring break, which is actually in winter. (go figure)

  9. This is so deja vu for me. when i was in New Hampshire I bought a Dell laptop. While I was still in the States it broke down, motherboard problem. After hours on the phone someone came over and supposingly he fixed it. Again it had problems and after again hours on the phone they took it back and replaced it wit another one. When I returned to Greece I had problems again, after hours on long distance calls I sent it from Greece to the States. They return it back fixed but not really fixed. To make the long story short I ended up with a useless laptop costing me a fortune. I totally sympathize with you.

  17. The computer can be frustrating. I call mine Hal. At least the problem is repairable and there is no out of pocket expense to bear. This is my first visit to your blog and I've been browsing through your earlier entries. I really enjoyed my visit and I will definitely be back. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
